教育背景

I grew up in the state of Wisconsin in the United States. And I completed my undergraduate degree in French and German and I achieved my master degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from California State University East Bay. I have worked in the U.S., Europe and Asia at the high school, community college and university levels. I speak a number of foreign languages (including Chinese, English, French, German and Spanish), which have assisted myself in communicating with international students and understanding the challenges they face learning another language.

我从小在美国威斯康星州长大，在加利福尼亚州立大学东湾校区完成了法语、德语和英语教学硕士学位以及对外英语教学(TESOL)学位。曾先后在美国、欧洲和亚洲的高中、社区学院和大学工作过。我掌握了多种外国语言(包括中文，英语，法语，德语和西班牙语)，这有助于和国际学生沟通，了解他们面临的挑战，来帮助他们学习另一种语言。

I have worked in the field of international education for the last 15 years. Some of my experiences have included the following:

*Developed a high school preparation program for students.

planning to study at high school in North America.

*Developed cross-cultural and adjustment training to Chinese students before and after arriving in the U.S. for university study.

*Advised students on educational opportunities in the U.S.

*Coordinated extra-curricular programming at the high school and university levels for international students.

*Conducted numerous workshops and presentations to teachers and other educators; including using role plays in the classroom; using online teaching resources; developing international student orientations and school field trips; and supervising student employees.

我在国际教育领域工作了近15年。总结了一些经验主要包括以下几点：

As a teacher, I believe it is essential to create a friendly and supportive classroom environment for students. I work with students to help them see the relevance of learning to their own lives. I encourage students to apply what they have learned to other learning situations.

作为一名教师，我相信为学生创造一个友好的、乐于支持的课堂环境是必不可少的。我和学生一起工作，帮助他们看到学习对自己生活的意义。我鼓励学生把他们所学到的东西应用到其他学习环境中去。

It is my belief that students can be successful by developing confidence in them and by working hard. What “success” means will vary from student to student, but it is important that students feel they are working toward meeting their own version of success. Most students plan to study in the U.S. or other Western countries after high school, so it is also critical, as teachers, help prepare them for the different academic environment and expectations that they will face when they head overseas.

我坚信学生可以通过提升自信和努力工作走向成功。“成功”对于不同的人来说意义是不同的，但更重要的是，学生们为了他们认为的成功不断努力、不断提升自己。大多数学生高中毕业后计划去美国或其他西方国家继续深造学习，关键的是，作为教师，为学生提供不同的学术环境，当他们独自面对海外学习生活的时候能够从容适应。
