Preeti Ghosh
My name is Preeti Ghosh. I am the mathematics teacher for grade 7, 9 and 10. The concerned subjects are Algebra I and Algebra II. For grade 10, I shall incorporate SAT papers and questions in the syllabus along with the concepts of Algebra II. This is my second year in LWS. I am so excited to be teaching because it is an absolute joy to see young people learn, grow, and then be transformed into mathematicians. I look forward to helping students meet the challenges and exceed the expectations as they develop their math knowledge this year.
我的名字是普瑞蒂·高希,我是7年级、9年级和10年级的数学老师,主要教代数(一)、(二)。对于10年级的学生,我将把代数(二)的相关概念与SAT测试和教学大纲结合起来。这是我在美高学校的第二年,能够从事教育工作使我充满激情,因为能够看到年轻的学生不断的学习、成长,然后成为一名数学家这让我感到非常开心,我很期待能够帮助学生面对挑战并提高他们的数学成绩。
教授数学是我的兴趣
Teaching is a rewarding experience. I teach so I can learn about the world and all of those infinite possibilities that brand new minds bring to me each and every day. I am a Civil Engineer by profession and hold a master’s degree in Structural Engineering. I have worked as an Assistant Professor and an Engineer before joining LWS. I am very passionate about mathematics because it is just fun. Math is a universal language. I love mathematics because it can be used to solve many real world problems in many fields. The list of mathematics applications is infinite.
教学是一份很有价值的经历,因为我在教学所以我才能了解这个世界和所有未知的可能性,每天这些未知的可能性都会带给我新的思想。在来到美高之前,我是一名土木工程师并获得了结构工程学的硕士。我对于教授数学非常有热情因为它会非常有趣。数学同时也是一门通用语言,我喜欢数学因为它能解决现实生活中很多领域中的很多问题,列举数学在现实生活中的应用是无穷无尽的。让孩子爱上数学
Not all students like math, but a good math teacher has the power to change that. I help students who have traditionally struggled with arithmetic begin to build confidence in their skills. For students who are usually bored with numbers, I try to breathe new life into the subject. I try to make my class a place where students want to be.
不是所有的学生都喜欢数学,但一个好的数学老师有能力改变这一情况。我会帮助那些在数学上比较弱的学生,从而帮助他们树立自信。对于那些对于数字觉得很无聊的学生,我会努力在课堂上给他们带去不同的体验。我会尽量使课堂变成学生希望的样子。
I understand that students learn in different ways. I keep up with the best practices in math education and regularly incorporate those into my instruction to help all of my students learn. I also understand that there may be multiple ways to solve problems and use those alternate strategies to help struggling students grasp difficult concepts. My lesson plans engage students and help them feel confident in their mathematical abilities.
我知道学生的学习方法不同,我坚持在数学教学中使用最有效的方法,并将这些方法与我的指导相结合来帮助所有的学生学习。解决问题的方式有很多,我会利用不同的方法帮助有困难的学生理解复杂的概念。我的课程计划通过学生参与从而帮助他们树立数学学习上的自信。
教学风格
In the classroom, a good math teacher does not take the "because I said so" approach or play the role of a know-it-all. Instead, she serves as a facilitator of learning, providing students with the knowledge and tools to solve problems and then encouraging students to solve them on their own. When students answer a problem incorrectly, I do not allow them to quit. I encourage students to figure out where they went wrong and to keep working at the problem until they get the correct answer, providing support and guidance where needed
.在教室里,一个好的数学老师不会用“因为我这么说”来解决一切,也不会扮演无所不知的角色,相反,他扮演的是一个帮助学生学习,为学生提供知识和解决问题的方法,并鼓励学生自己解决问题的引导者。当学生回答问题错误时,我不会让他们放弃,我会鼓励他们找到错误的根源并为此努力直到他们找到正确的答案,并在需要的时候提供支持和引导。
I care about my students. I recognize when a student is having a bad day or needs some encouragement and addresses the problem to help the student refocus on the material. While I hold students to high expectations, I recognize that occasionally life gets in the way of homework and that studying sometimes take a back seat to family obligations. I offer students second chances when warranted and takes time out of my own schedule to help students catch up.我非常关心学生们。
当我知道我的学生心情不好,或需要鼓励和解决问题的方法时,我会帮助他们重新关注重要的事情。我对学生抱有很高的期望,生活中会有些问题有时候会阻碍学生学习,当学生因为家庭原因影响了学业时,如果给出正当理由我会给他们第二次机会再次尝试,并抽出时间帮助他们提高成绩。
在LWS的期望
My goal in my classroom is to have a lively and open educational environment. I emphasize class participation. I encourage students to answer questions, even if incorrect. I want to make mathematics interesting, possible and relevant for students. I want to expose students to different ways of thinking about the world. I would like students to learn transferable problem solving skills and would like them to see the beauty and elegance of mathematics.
我希望我的课堂能够提供生动活泼、自由开放的教育环境,因此十分重视课堂的参与度,我鼓励每个学生回答问题,即使回答错误也没关系。我想让数学课变得对学生而言是有趣的、充满无限可能的和有意义的。我希望向同学展示不同的思考世界的方式,学生能学会举一反三和解决问题的技巧并让他们认识到数学的魅力。
