上海美高双语学校课程交流项目负责人David专访

上海美高双语学校同学在开学初期参加了学校组织的LWS-LWJ跨国合作课程交换项目。他们跳出地域与文化差异的限制,走出去,实地体验并深入了解美国教育、文化和生活,感受着自由、创新的美国教育理念,在深度的融入中得到了深刻的成长。在处处是课堂的项目中学习知识、学会思考。

上海美高老师David学历:弗吉尼亚大学社会学博士、富勒心理研究所博士后负责:AP Psychology、Asian History、Global Collaboration.以下是上海美高老师David专访。

Q:您作为Global Collaboration 课程负责人,您认为此项目有哪些优势?课程有哪些特色?

A: 本项目是中美交流课程,中方和美方校区的学生透过针对共同课题进行交流,辩论与合作。学生从中认识到中美文化的异同点,作为日后赴美留学的准备。本课程也是Honor course,对孩子们的GPA和申请海外名校都有助益。

Q:As the head of the project, what advantages do you think this project has? What are the characteristics of the course?

A:This project is an exchange course between China and the United States. Students from Chinese and American campuses communicate, debate and cooperate on common topics. Students learn the similarities and differences between Chinese and American cultures as apreparation for studying in the United States in the future. This course is also an Honor course, which is helpful for children's GPA and their application to famous schools overseas.

Q:今年作为交流生的美高孩子,您觉得他们在美国适应的如何?

A: 他们适应得很好,但还是有个别体验不如人意。比如采买食材不方便,文化差异导致的饮食上不习惯等等。这些都是在日后将赴美留学的孩子们需要克服和适应的问题。

Q:As exchange students, how do you feel about their adaptation in the United Statesthis year?

A:They have adapted well, but there are still individual experiences that are notsatisfactory. For example, it is inconvenient to buy food ingredients, cultural differences lead to eating habits and so on.These are the problems that children who are going to study in the United States need to overcome and adapt.

Q:您觉得孩子们能够在美国适应的好是哪些原因导致的?

A: 美方校区LWJ在此交换课程中安排了多种活动,内容非常丰富,足够让孩子们在短时间内体验美国特色文化。并且此活动我校和美方学校都很重视,并且筹划了很长时间,我们有充分时间做行前规划和准备。

Q:What do you think is the reason why children can adapt well in the United States?

A:The American campus LWJ has arranged avariety of activities in this exchange course, which is rich enough for children to experience American culture in a short time. Moreover, our school and the American school attach great importance to this activity and have planned it for a long time. We have enough time to plan and prepare for it.

Q:您觉得美国高中教育和中国的区别是什么?

A: 中国的学校一般是老师讲课,学生听课,学生的自主性和独立思辨能力得不到很好的培养。美国的学校则鼓励学生以清晰的逻辑和论据来表达自己的意见。同时,中国大学的入学标准普遍以考试分数为主,目标较为单一。而美国大学则更看重孩子是否有独特的专长和潜力,是否有充分的可塑性和创造力。美高一直以来融合中美教育精华,从学生自身发展出发,引导他们发挥其所长,帮助他们更好的规划未来,成为全面发展的国际型人才。

Q:What do you think is the biggest difference between American high school education and Chinese one?

A:Schools in China are usually taught by teachers. Students attend classes. Students’ independent thinking ability are not well trained and developed. American schools encourage students to express their opinions with clear logic and arguments. At the same time, the entrance criteria of Chinese universities are generally based on examination scores, with a single goal. American universities, on the other hand, pay more attention to whether children have unique expertise and potential, and whether they have sufficient creativity. Living Word Shanghai has always integrated the essence of education between China and the United States, starting from the development of students themselves, guiding them to give full play to their strengths and helping them better plan the future and become an international talent of all-round development.

Q:未来在这个项目上,您觉得还有哪些方面需要做改善?

A: 作为负责此项目的老师,我建议以下三点作为参考:

1、我校可以将此活动放在四月或五月,气温较适中,也有更长时间准备。

2. 下学年如有机会可以邀请美方学生来中方参观交流,以同样的方式安排更精彩行程。

3. 学校可以尝试将合作的范围扩大到Global Collaboration以外的不同科目上。

Q:In the future, what aspects do you think need to be improved on this project?

A:As a teacher in charge of this project, I suggest the following three points for reference:

1.Our school can put this activity in April or May, the temperature is moderate, andthere is longer time to prepare.

2.In the next school year, if we have the opportunity, we can invite American students to visit and exchange with Shanghai campus, and arrange more exciting trips in the same way.

3.Schools can try to expand the scope ofcooperation to different subjects other than Global Collaboration.

Q:您对今后参与这个项目的美高学子有什么期许?

A: 与国外学生交流,需要付出很多额外的努力,学习使用对方的语言和文化来沟通。期间肯定会遇到困难和挫折,但也一定会有收获和惊喜,通过此类活动孩子们会深刻体会到世界上不同国家的文化多样性和丰富性,学到不同的观看世界的视角。

PS:G11以下的同学如果以后想参加本课程,需具备良好的英语写作能力,主动求知的热情,以及开放的心胸。我相信你们付出得多,到时候收获也将会很多。

Q:What are your expectations for the future students of the United States High School who will participate in this project?

A:It takes a lot of extra effort to communicate with foreign students, learning to use each other's language and culture to communicate. During this period, there will be difficulties and setbacks, but there will also be gains and surprises. Through such activities,children will deeply experience the cultural diversity and richness of different countries in the world, and learn different perspectives of viewing the world.

PS:If the students below G11 want to take this course in the future, they should have good English writing ability, enthusiasm for learning actively and openmind. I believe that you will put a lot of effort and also gain a lot from it.
