2015年秋季开学上海美高学校，引进了大量的外籍教师以扩展教师队伍。目前，教师与学生的综合比为1:4，外籍教师与中国学生的比例为1:6。这些主要由作家、新闻记者、企业家、博士和职业运动员组成的教师会以自己特有的专长、工作经验和教学经验启发和培养学生成为各行业的领军人物。这里我们特别介绍有一下曾经在美联社担任过记者与多项新闻职务并拥有高校教育经验的Larry Synclair 先生。

In the Fallsemester of 2015, Living Word Shanghai, introduced a number of new foreign teachersto expand its faculty. It currently boasts a 4:1 Student-Teacher Ratio and 6:1 student-InternationalTeacher Ratio! We have amongst our teachers: writers, journalists, professionalathletes, and PhD holders. These are skilled professionals who can exert theirability, experience and educational skills to cultivate the students intoleaders of all walks of life. Larry Synclair is one such talent. He was a journalist with theAssociated Press, and has a background in higher education.

2015年八月Larry Synclair老师被任命为上海美高学校教务总监及社会科学系系主任。他拥有博士学位，是专业技能与综合素养优秀的校务负责人。他曾担任驻莫斯科新闻记者，是新闻记者和电台主播。他也在三所美国大学与上海的教育机构教授英语、媒体及沟通课程。

InAugust, Larry wasappointed as the Director of Faculty and Dean of the Social Science Department.With a well-rounded set of professional skills and a PHD, he has made anoutstanding manager at the school. He was an American journalist and radiobroadcaster. He worked at numerous radio stations and radio news agencies inthree countries, including as a foreign correspondent in Moscow. He taughtEnglish and media and communication at three American universities and one educationalinstitution in Shanghai.

如何将传奇般的经历和专业运用到教学中是美高学校教育创新的关键。以自己的精彩资历帮助学生提高英语、沟通能力与新闻写作将成为学校提倡综合素质教育的典范。目前，在我国新闻及沟通类媒体专业仅在的高校才开设，而且该相关课程专业老师缺少实际经验。许多媒体新闻专业毕业的学生依然无法符合社会的要求。如何提高媒体类师资的水平是教育领域的当务之急。

Applinghis extensive experience in education is a key part of education innovation atLiving Word Shanghai. Utilizing experience helps more students improve their English,communication, and news writing. This will be the model for the comprehensivepersonal quality that our school advocates. Nowadays there are news and media coursesin all universities. However, many teachers of journalism have not had enough actualexperience to provide the students with the training they need to make it inthe real world. Improving journalism teachers is apriorityin education.

上海美高学校聘请类似于Larry有丰富新闻工作背景和丰富教育经验的老师来我校担任系主任与教师，此举在国内的高校是不多见的，在国内中学教育中更为罕见。在美国高中已经开始有沟通、领导力等课程旨在让学生早日学会各种社会技能为今后在大学的学习和工作生活中打下好的基础。Larry老师经验丰富，平易近人，他会帮助学生从最基本的该如何表达?如何获取信息?开始教导学生。着重强调学会“如何表达”、“表达什么”、包括情绪反应和肢体语言等沟通技巧，而不是单纯的背诵与记忆。许多人到了成年依然有不少不良的沟通习惯，因此从中学起培养良好的沟通方式，对提高学生综合素质至关重要。早日学会英语沟通的口头与书面表达技能，为今后更多愿意进入媒体专业和领域的学生提供平台，培养出弘扬社会正能量传播世界优秀文化的人才。同时，当学生在学会沟通技巧时，无论是在学生活动、课间交流还是在集体生活都会起到很大的帮助。

Our school employs excellent teachers, likeLarry, as deans and senior teachers, which is rare even in universities, not tomention high schools and middle schools. Curriculum such as communication andleadership begin in middle school in American education, which lays a goodfoundation for students to communicate well in the future. Larry is a kindperson, who will help students improve communication skills by teaching themhow to express themselves, what to say, and how to pick up information includingbody language and countenance. In this way, we train the students to have good communication,improve comprehensively, and improve oral and written expression in English. Italso provides a great opportunity for students who are eager to work in media.Meanwhile, it is helpful for student to communicate with each other, and avoidmisunderstands in class and in life.
