Tyren Team Leader

While at Westside Community Health San Francisco, Tyren worked as a case-manager and counselor for at risk teens. Having a background in both clinical and developmental psychology, he later moved into the field of education helping those students wishing to go to college achieve their dreams. Over the years he ran both group and individual counseling on many social emotional issues, always using the student-centered approach. Being born in Los Angeles and living in San Francisco, he bring a unique perspective to students who will most likely study in America.

Lydia Elementry and Middle School Counselor

Lydia worked as a qualified school psychologist for three years at a Taiwanese international school before coming to Living Word Shanghai. Her work entailed students with different cultural backgrounds and also different adolescent concern. She was able to build stable and good connection with the students who knew her through counseling, courses and activities. She feels very proud when students leave her office with smiles on their faces and the courage to face the future; she loves to be always here for students for their better and healthier development.

April Educational Specialist

April worked in a British Internaional School for 3 years in the Special Educational Needs department. Normally she needed to teach and support a variaty of developmental issues for children in mulitple class subjects. She primarly focised on students phonics, handwriting, math, literacy and themed learning for both individuals and groups. She is inspired by teaching children and feels fulfillment when students make improvement in their learning.

The elementary years are a time when students begin to develop their academic self-concept and their feelings of competence and confidence. They are beginning to develop decision-making, communication and life skills, as well as character values. It is also a time when students develop and acquire attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups and family.
Our Elementary School counseling program provides education, prevention and intervention services, which are integrated into all aspects of the student’s lives. Early identification and intervention of children’s academic and personal/social needs is essential in removing barriers to learning and in promoting academic achievement. The knowledge, attitudes and skills that students acquire in the areas of academic, career and personal/social development during these elementary years serve as the foundation for future success.
We offer the following counseling services to the Elementary School community:
One-on-one counseling support, maintaining appropriate confidentialityProblem resolution, group counseling support
Parent consultation on issues related to their child’s learning and developmentClose connection with external agencies and experts in supporting students and their families
Organization of parent forums and workshops on topics of interest
Transition assistance for parents and students to our school and other schools

Middle and High School初中部
The Middle School counseling team helps Grade 5 to 8 students establish academic routines and develop social/emotional wellness in both individual and group settings. Our counselors also work with parents when referrals for academic testing or private counseling are necessary. Living Word also has a Care and Concern team which is comprised of a group of counselors and teachers who monitor the academic and social adjustments of our students.
The Living Word Counselors view students as unique individuals; each student is received with honor and respect. Confidentiality is a priority in all counseling sessions. Reasons to visit the counselor may include:

The purpose of college guidance at Living Word is to provide a personalized, student-centered program that informs and supports both students and parents. Counselors help students discover college or university communities that will best serve their academic and personal growth.
Our college guidance is a five-year program educating parents and students extensively about preparing for college, the college search process, completing applications, and ultimately selecting a college/university. The degree of guidance increases and becomes more specialized as students advance through Grades 8 to 12.
We provide academic tracking to personalize Education and maximize students potential and passionsCommunication with families is done through group meetings with parents and students at all grade levels, emails, and most importantly in individual guidance sessions
