地理课是社会科学领域的重要课程。上海美高学校学子们在这些课程中,不只从教科书获得知识,也尝试自己查找资料做课题。透过这些练习,学生学习如何自己获得知识,并且发展出自己的方式将获得的知识展示出来,与老师和同学沟通。
History and Geography are important courses under the area of social sciences. LWS students who take these courses not only learn material from the textbooks, they also do research and make projects. Through such practices, they learn how to gain knowledge by themselves, as well as develop and express their own ways to display and communicate what they learn with teachers and classmates.

地理课Geography
在这学期的世界地理课上,六年级同学制作了期中海报。学生们分四人一组,解释了当前的全球问题,如空气污染、气候变化和森林砍伐。每个小组都有不同的主题,他们创作了许多丰富多彩的海报。
In World Geography class this semester, the grade 6s made posters for their mid-term assessment. In groups of 4, students explained one current global issue, such as air pollution, climate change or deforestation. Each group had a different topic, and they created many colorful and varied posters.
这项任务的主要目的是让学生根据他们的主题做一些研究,然后使用文字和图像,从地理学的角度来解释他们的主题。这集中在问题的原因和影响,以及使用可视化媒介,特别是地图,帮助我们理解一个主题。学生们使用了各种各样的地图、图表、照片和图画。其中的海报都藉由图表清楚说明了关于这个主题的信息。
The principle aim of this task was for students to do some research on their topic, then use both text and visuals to explain their topic from a geographic perspective. This focused on the causes and effects of the issue and the way visuals, particularly maps, help us to understand a topic. Students used a wide variety of maps, charts, photos and drawings, and the best posters clearly explained what these could tell us about the topic.
学生们发现这个作业的某些方面比其他方面要来得容易。后来几周的学习重点就是他们认为比较困难的方面。本课程确保了学生都能掌握地理基础知识。
Students clearly found some aspects of this assessment easier than others, and it is the areas that students found more difficult were the focus of the next few weeks of study to ensure that they are all given the opportunity to master some of the basics of geography.
七年级学生制作了关于自然地理的期中海报。在3人一组的活动中,学生们用教师提供的材料制作海报,解释他们对大气的理解。不同的小组采取了不同方法来完成这项任务,他们创作了许多色彩丰富的海报。
The 7th graders also made midterm posters. Groups of 3 students used the materials given by the teacher to create posters explaining what they understood about the atmosphere. Different groups adopted different approaches to this task, and they created many colorful and varied posters.
这项任务的主要目的是让学生利用课堂上的材料和知识,用文字和图像来解释大气的关键方面,重点是大气层里每一层的特性,和它们对地球的重要性。与六年级类似,学生也使用了各种图表来呈现精彩内容。
The principle aim of this task was for students to use the materials and their knowledge from class to use both text and visuals to explain the key aspects of the atmosphere. This focused on the layers of the atmosphere and each layer’s importance to Earth. Similar to G6 students, they also used various visual techniques to present rich material.
本校的历史和地理教师们很好地透过活动和课题,鼓励学生在一定的学科知识基础上进行有创意的思考和创作。未来他们会继续在课堂上为学生带来活泼多彩的学习经验。
Our teachers of History and Geography classes did a good job using activities and projects to encourage students to think and make things creatively, based on basic understanding of academic knowledge. In the future, they will continue offering vivid experiences in the classes.
