小学生想象力丰富，对世界充满好奇，渴望探索和创造。为此，上海新纪元双语学校小学部举行了“科普英语小记者”活动,活动主题围绕“Dream·Practice·Science”开展。活动语言为英语，鼓励孩子们勤于观察生活、勇于发现问题、乐于动手尝试，积极解决问题，体验科学探究的乐趣，培养“小小科学家”应具备的科学素养和创新实践能力。

上海新纪元双语学校

活动要求：

1. 围绕一个独特的或让人激动的生命现象开展科学研究。

2. 完整阐述如何发现这个生命现象。

3. 针对这一现象如何开展科学研究;或通过实验解释这一生命现象或发现新的生命活动规律。

4.最后解释这一生命现象或发现生命活动规律的重要科学意义。

In our daily life, we may as well meet with many and various kinds of seed growth and transmission. A large number of seeds can grow with nutrients because they need four basic things like water, air, sunshine and area, or they can’t be alive in the world without these above-mentioned conditions. Plants most often get the nutrients from the mud, water, sunshine and the like, and give the human beings the oxygen at the same time, and the people breathe out the carbon dioxide and the plants can take in them and turn them into oxygen. Here is the whole cycle.

There is a farm in our school, where students can observe growth of vegetables and fruits. We can also learn how to do farm work there. It is interesting!

While, it is difficult to do farm work at home, as we have no yard.

When I talked about it with my father, he showed me a website telling growing of vegetables aboard a space station. If they can do something there, maybe we can do something here.

I would try to grow mung bean sprout at home, to see if I can grow vegetable indoor, without soil.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD), a chronic neurodegenerative disease among senior individuals, is the most common cause of dementia - a continuous decline in memory, thinking, behavioral and social skills that disrupts a person's ability to function independently. Despite tremendous efforts from scientists and doctors, there is currently no effective treatment for this disease1, 2.

Drosophila, also called fruit fly, is one of the best model organisms to study genetics and human diseases3. Importantly, the Drosophila brain is much more complicated than what we thought, and harbors millions of neurons to carry out complex functions like learning, memory and choice making. Like human, the brain functions of Drosophila diminish with age4, which could be used as an animal model to study AD.

本次“科普英语小记者”活动便是探究式学习的显著表现。本次活动引导孩子们学习并掌握科学的方法论，从生活实际出发，开展科学小课题研究、争当科普双语小记者等实践活动，用英语展示分享探究成果、体验感悟和个性风采。一系列的实践活动激发了孩子们热爱科学、探究世界的兴趣和欲望，同时培养了孩子们的自主探究能力、跨文化沟通能力和团队合作能力，树立了为实现中华科技强国而奋斗的远大目标。是的，变身科学小达人，我们当仁不让。
